The next day we went to Sloppy Joe’s for a little music. Fun fun, fun. Sloppy Joe’s was originally a speakeasy during prohibition and was established in 1933. It was a favorite of Ernest Hemingway who established residence here in Key west. The story came when one of it’s previous owners Joe Russell (Named at that time Russell’s Bar). It seems He got the nickname” sloppy joe” because the floor of his place Jose Garcia Rio Havana club was always wet with ice form the seafood. The nick name stuck and he changed the nak=me to Sloppy Joe’s.
